Cemetery rejects corpse of Civil servant struck dead by lightening
The management of llorin Muslim Cemetery yesterday rejected the corpse of a 47-year-old civil servant who was killed by lightening in Oro, lrepodun Local Government Area, Kwara State.

Dr. Abubakar Aliagan, the Coordinator of the cemetery, said the rejection Mr. Salami Adekunle’s corpse followed an instruction that it should not undergo the normal Islamic prayers and bath. Aliagan said while the deceased was described as a practising Muslim in his life time, the Muslims in his neighbourhood refused to accept that his death was an act of God.
He said the performance of traditional rituals on Adekunle’s corpse after his death was unacceptable to the management of the cemetery, adding that the burial of the deceased in the cemetery must also be in line with Islamic tenets.
“If the late Salami will sleep in our Muslim cemetery, we have to do it in line with lslamic rites,” Aliagan said.
Adekunle was on Thursday struck dead by lightening during a downpour.
The deceased, who hailed from lnisa in Osun State, was until his death an official of the Registry Department at Kwara State College of Education, Oro.
The Public Relations Officer of the institution, Mr. Adesola Adewoye, said the family of the deceased would meet to decide on the next line of action.

He delayed our results for 6-yrs for not paying N50,000 bribe — Ex-student recount ordeal with sacked LASU lecturer

Mr. Alabi Abiodun, an ex-student of LASU, revealed how the sacked lecturer allegedly delayed the processing of the result of seven students of the (2007) set for six years because they refused to pay the N50,000 bribes he allegedly demanded from each of them.
Ex-student recount ordeal with sacked LASU lecturer Like a season movie that is yet to climax, the last seems not to have been heard of the sacking of 15 lecturers, two non-academic staff and the demotion of two others by the Governing Council of the Lagos State University, as more facts have continued to emerge about the issue.
One of the sacked lecturers, Dr. Isaac Oyewunmi, who was the branch chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities in LASU, said recently that the allegations against him were mere victimisation and that it was “shameful” that LASU relied on “ghost petition” to sack him. He had said, “If you can even prove that I demanded some amount of money from those students, nothing more than that, and some people actually collected money, it is politics of activism and we are used to it. But it is actually shameful.
“When you have incidents of a ghost petition and then you use the evidence of a third party to rubbish the career of another – well, it’s interesting; we are enjoying it honestly.”
But, as it turns out, the person who wrote the petition against Oyewunmi has come out to state his side of the story. In an exclusive interview with our correspondent earlier in the week, the petitioner, Mr. Alabi Abiodun, an ex-student of LASU, revealed how the sacked lecturer allegedly delayed the processing of the result of seven students of the (2007) set for six years because they refused to pay the N50,000 bribes he allegedly demanded from each of them.
In the course of the delay, Alabi said he lost two job offers because his result was not ready and that it took the intervention of the former governor of the state, Babatunde Fashola, to get their results.
In a narrative that turned out to be very interesting, Alabi said he gained admission into LASU in 2003 to study Political Science under the sandwich programme. It was a three-year course, but due to strike actions along the line, he graduated in 2007, instead of 2006. He noted that his experience while the programme lasted was sweet and productive.

South-East governors denies warning FG over killing of IPOB members

South-East governors have condemned the reports that claiming that they have sent warning to the Federal Government, urging it to “stop the killing IPOB members.

South-East governors denies warning FG over killing of IPOB membersThe South-East Governors’ Forum on Friday denied an online report that it had, at a meeting held in Abakailiki, the Ebonyi State capital, warned the Federal Government against killing members of the Indigenous People of Biafra.
In a statement on Friday signed by the Director-General of the forum, Prof. Simon Ortuanya, and the forum’s Director of Media and Communication, Michael Ike Udah, in Awka, Anambra State, the governors said such meeting did not take place, thus, such story was false. The forum condemned the report, saying it was intended to undermine the milestone already recorded on the issue.
The statement read in part, “The attention of the South-East Governors’ Forum has been drawn to false and unfounded news published online to the effect that the South- East Governors did send a strong warning to the Federal Government, urging it to “stop the killing IPOB members.
“In order to put the record straight, the South-East Governors’ Forum hereby states that there is no iota of truth in the said publication. The chairman of the forum and Governor of Ebonyi State, Chief Dave Umahi, is currently out of the country and was not even in Ebonyi State on the said Wednesday, September 6, 2017 when the alleged emergency meeting of South-East Governors purportedly took place.
“No South-East governor or their deputies attended any meeting, emergency or regular, in Abakaliki, on the said date.
“South-East Governors’ Forum reaffirms its belief in the amicable resolution of all issues especially as it relates to agitations by IPOB.”

BIAFRA: France denies funding IPOB, says we never heard the topic

We don’t have any knowledge of a particular presence of IPOB in France and the Nigerian authorities never got in touch with the Embassy on this point, says French embassy.
France, through the French embassy in Nigeria has denied warehousing funds belonging to the Indigenous People of Biafra and its leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
Political Counsellor, Claude Abily of the Embassy of France in a statement reacted to claims by Lai Mohammed, Nigeria’s minister of information, alleging that IPOB had stashed its funds in France through which it funds its activities.
“The Embassy of France was surprised by the statement made yesterday by the Minister of Information and Culture indicating that the “financial headquarters” of IPOB were in France”.“We don’t have any knowledge of a particular presence of IPOB in France and the Nigerian authorities never got in touch with the Embassy on this point. We stand ready to examine any information which could support this statement. Furthermore, we would like to reiterate that France actively cooperates with Nigeria in the field of security and that we strongly support the unity of the country” the statement said

Signs That You Could Have a Body Image Disorder

Signs That You Could Have a Body Image Disorder

Advertising and the media can heavily impact the way that we see ourselves and our bodies, because of the importance that is placed on physical attractiveness. This can lead to unhealthy behavior like eating disorders or body image disorders (such as body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) in an attempt to achieve the media standard of beauty.
It's important to understand what BDD is, in order to notice the signals. Body image refers to your perceptual body image, which is essentially the way you see yourself. There are bound to be various small things that each of us do not like about our bodies, however, people suffering from BDD obsess over these things (real or perceived) for hours each day.
These negative thoughts become uncontrollable, and, according to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, the individual suffering from BDD does not believe others when they reassure them that they look fine. Body dysmorphic disorder can have the following effects.
Becoming withdrawn: Because people suffering from body dysmorphic disorder are obsessed with their perceived flaws this can lead to an avoidance of social situations.
Comparing your body to that of others: Not only do people with BDD think negative thoughts about their own appearance, but they also compare themselves to other people. And they will constantly need reassurance.
Seeking cosmetic surgery: Often, to correct their perceived flaws, people with BDD want to seek help from cosmetic surgery.
Developing obsessing behaviors: According to Mind, people with BDD can develop routines such as the excessive use of mirrors (or avoiding them entirely), picking at the skin, frequently weighing, comparing themselves to celebrities or models, and excessive grooming.
Feelings of shame: Among the many other symptoms, people with BDD can also develop feelings of shame, guilt, anxiety, and loneliness.
Who does it affect? BDD affects men and women almost equally but is more prevalent in teens and adolescents. In order to treat BDD, an individual must discuss their concerns with a doctor or mental health professional,

The Nutrition of Snake

The Nutrition of Snake

                                    Snake_000000478531_Small.jpg
Snake meat is not common in Western meals, but is popular in other cultures for its supposed health benefits. Snake meat is also being more widely accepted as a healthy exotic game meat, and is often offered along side other exotic meats like alligator and ostrich in Western restaurants or over the Internet.
What is Snake Meat?
Snakes are reptiles that are found in most countries in the world. Some snakes are venomous, meaning that they can inject poison into the bloodstream through a bite. The most popular snake meat in the United States comes from rattlesnakes, although other types, such as python, are available over the Internet. Rattlesnake meat is commonly eaten in the Southwest, and popular recipes include rattlesnake chili and barbecued snake meat. Other cultures generally eat their own, locally found snakes.
Snakes are considered medicinal in Chinese lore, as a "warming" food, and the blood of snakes is often mixed with liquor to produce a virility enhancer. Traditional South American medicine includes dried or powdered snake meat which is believed to cure several different illnesses. Snake meat is usually said to taste like chicken, but a closer approximation is frog legs. Snake meat can be very tough if not prepared well.
Health Benefits of Snake
Snake meat contains protein like any other type of meat. Protein is necessary for many body systems, including the development of muscles. Protein provides amino acids the body cannot obtain any other way, which do everything from building cell walls, to regulating hormones. Snake meat contains roughly 93 calories per 100g (3.5 oz) of raw meat, depending on the type of snake. This is roughly half the calories and one third the amount of fat of a similar amount of sirloin beef steak. Fewer calories and less fat content for the same weight of meat can aid dieters in controlling their weight.
Cautions About Snake Meat
As snake meat is not often sold commercially in the United States, it does not have particular, rigid health standards that other meats do. Rattlesnake meat is often sold from "Rattlesnake Roundups," which are similar in atmosphere to rodeos and have been accused of low standards of food preparation. This is of particular concern as rattlesnake meat in South America has been linked several times with severe strains of salmonella, which grows in the snake's gut. This bacteria is neutralized by proper handling and by cooking. Snakes, like other animals, may also contain parasites and other infections that can be transmitted to humans, which can also be neutralized by proper handling, freezing, and thorough cooking. Snake venom must enter the blood stream to pose any danger to people, so there are no concerns about poisoning from eating most snakes.
Snake meat is relatively low in fat and calories, high in protein and some consider it a rising star in the food industry. However, like any type of meat, it should be prepared and cooked carefully to ensure it does not result in infection or food poisoning.

Attention People Who Eat Dog Meat! Here are 3 Major Health Concerns You Should Know About

Although the concept of eating dog meat is completely unheard of in the U.S., in other parts of the world, it is regarded just the same as eating chicken or cow. In Vietnam, for example, approximately five million dogs are killed every year for meat, other places dog meat is eaten include Europe, Russia, Africa, Latin America, China, the Philippines, and South Korea.
The Yulin dog meat festival recently garnered international outrage as celebrities and animal activists joined together to raise awareness and call for an end to this faux “tradition.” Photos of dogs stuffed into cages and huddled in absolute fear before slaughter for the festival illustrate the cruelty involved in the dog meat trade. While the suffering of these animals is undeniable, there are also major human health concerns arising from the consumption of dog. The issues highlighted are critical concerns that could have a negative impact on human health if they are not addressed by ending the consumption of dog meat.

1. Rabies

One of the largest dangers of dog meat is the spread of rabies to both animals and people. In the Philippines, approximately 10,000 dogs and 300 people are killed by rabies each year. Despite efforts by the World Health Organization (WHO) to mass vaccinate dogs to prevent the spread of rabies through the processes of sourcing, slaughter, and sale of dogs, the dog meat trade moves tens of thousands of dogs across international borders making rabies prevention enormously difficult.
Workers can easily be infected with rabies during slaughter and spread the disease to other dogs and humans alike. In 2008, 20 percent of dogs in slaughterhouses in Hoai Duc, Vietnam were found to have rabies. The previous year, Vietnam suffered from a rabies outbreak with approximately 30 percent of the deaths attributable to the slaughter of dogs for meat. According to the Center for Disease Control’s records, only 10 people have ever survived this horrific disease. This is clearly a major concern when such a dangerous and deadly disease can be so easily spread.

2. Other Diseases

There are many other diseases and infections associated with dog meat that can endanger human health. The regional director of the Philippines National Meat Inspection Commission admitted that they do not inspect dog meat. Unfortunately, this is also the trend in China, according to Qin Xiaona, President of the Capital Animal Welfare Association.
Possible infections include parasites such as E. Coli 107 and salmonella. There is also a danger that bacterial infections like anthrax, brucellosis, hepatitis, and leptospirosis can be spread through the meat to people.
The bacteria associated with Cholera is also easily spread and propagated through the process of mass transporting and slaughtering dogs for consumption. Following a massive outbreak of Cholera in Vietnam, WHO’s representative Jean-Marc Olive, warned that eating dog meat, or other food from outlets that serve it, is linked to a 20-fold increase in the risk of becoming infected with the bacteria.
Trichinellosis is a zoonotic parasite that can be easily transmitted from dogs to humans through infected meat consumption. Once these parasites are in the human body, they can cause inflammation in blood vessels which leads to hemorrhaging in the nail beds and eyes, in addition to severe muscle weakness. If left untreated, trichinellosis can be fatal.

3. Antibiotic Resistance

There are many parallels to be found between dog meat farms and factory farms in America, unfortunately, antibiotic resistance is one of them. According to Change for Animals Foundation, “On dog farms, large numbers of dogs are living in close confinement, under stressful conditions, and are usually being fed insufficient, poor quality food. These factors result in increased levels of infectious disease and high mortality rates. In an effort to try to control the spread of disease and maximize productivity, there is evidence of farmers resorting to the indiscriminate overuse of antibiotics and vaccines.”
Dogs in these dirty farms are given large amounts of antibiotics and vaccines to fight the disease-ridden conditions on the farms. This influx of antibiotics is leading to a rise in superbugs. Superbugs present an enormous threat to global human health as a recent study conducted by the Review on Antimicrobial Resistance found that drug-resistant infections could kill an additional 10 million people a year by 2050 if steps aren’t taken to reduce the overuse of antibiotics. While the dog meat industry is not the only one contributing to this increase in antibiotic-resistant bacteria, its contribution should not be overlooked.

How to Stop the Dog Meat Trade

There are many options available if you want to help stop the cruel dog meat trade. First and foremost educating yourself and others of the dangers associated with eating dog meat is critical to bringing and end to this practice. Humane Society International has a wealth of information and resources to help and they also run large campaigns encouraging country leaders to take action to ban the trade altogether. Many people are not aware of the cruel practices and dangers or even the existence of the dog meat trade, so your best course of action is to educate yourself and others to expose the truth of this industry!

Effectiveness of dog meat

Effectiveness of dog meat

1. The Medical Effectiveness of Dog Meat

According to the Chinese medical encyclopedia, Bonchogangmog written by
Lee, Si-Jin in 1578 during the Myeong dynasty and Korean medical
encyclopedia, Dongeuibogam written by a famous Korean medical doctor, Her,
Joon in 1613 during the Chosun dynasty, the medical effectiveness of dog meat
is described as follows.  The character of dog meat is warm with a salty and
sour taste. It comforts the digestive systems, such as small and large intestines,
strengthens our stomach, supplements marrow to warm our knees and waist,
and raises vigor to make men virile  when bodies are fatigued and damaged, it
can help keep bodies healthy, and circulate the  blood smoothly.  In quality,
yellow furred dog is best, followed by black furred dog, and finally white furred
dog. Yellow furred dog is good for men and black furred dog for women.     As dog meat emits heat, one who suffers from fever shouldn't eat dog meat.
Also as garlic emits heat, eating dog meat with garlic heightens heat excessively.
So eating dog meat with garlic is not good.  Roasting dog meat can cause
diabetes.

  2. Nutritional Value of Dog Meat

Dog meat contains high-quality protein. When dog meat is boiled, its fiber
becomes loose, which is good for digestion. So eating pork in summer season
sometimes causes digestive problems, but dog meat doesn't do any harm, and
its fat can be digested severaltimes more easily than beef. The fat contains a
lot of unsaturated fatty acid with little cholesterol, which is preventive for high
blood pressure and arteriosclerosis.

 3. The Reason for Eating Dog Meat on Bognal(the onset of dog days)

As dog meat has the character of raising warmth, it can be had on the onset
of dog days to promote perspiration.

  4. Cuisine of Dog Meat in the Era of Chosun Dynasty

During the Chosun dynasty, dog meat was consumed in soup, steamed,
roasted or fried, with added spice, in sausage, as wine, as a cane, as a jerky
and boiled.   When Gaejangkuk is boiled, perilla purple are put in, not leaves of
perilla. Dongahgaezim is made by cutting off the top of a wax gourd and
scooping out its contents. Then  dog meat is put into it, the top is put back on,
and then its wrapped with a straw rope, and rubbed with mud sprinkled with
salt. After the mud hardens, it's roasted over night.

  5. Dog Meat-Eating Districts in the Occasion

In Buyeo, Cheongyang, Boryoung, and Seocheon, which are all in Chungnam
province, once the central part of Baekjae, dog meat is served during funeral
service, one's birthday, and Hoigap(the anniversary of one's 60th birthday).

  6. Countries which ate or are Currently Eating Dog Meat

Dog meat was eaten or is now being eaten by the Chinese, the Japanese, the
French, Polynesian, North-American, Mexican, Peruvian, Swiss, German,

eaten. Meat shops featuring dog and rat meat opened during that time. It has been
said that Taitians of Polynesia, which had been ruled by France, ate skewered

Couple bombarded with abuse over crowdfunding attempt to raise £6k for dream wedding

Couple bombarded with abuse over crowdfunding attempt to raise £6k for dream wedding

A couple who tried to crowdfund their dream wedding ended up taking down the page after they were bombarded with abuse.
Jack Dudley and Hannah Louise Miell cheekily asked the public to donate money so they could raise £6,000 to pay for a wedding in Ravello, Italy.
But they were hit with a torrent of abuse and were forced to take down the GoFundMe page – having raised just £55.
One person wrote on the page: “Save up like normal people. This is absolutely disgusting, millions of people out there with nothing.”
Hannah, who works for an animal charity, explained on the page how tough it was when Jack was away at sea as a Royal Navy submarine chef.
She wrote of her “intense admiration” for her “incredibly selfless” partner after he volunteered to serve in Afghanistan in 2012.
He helped her get through depression to become medication free, according to the page

The couple, from Tiverton, Devon, wrote: “We don’t have the money to be able to afford such a wedding which is where we need your help.
“Please give what you can, your support means the world to us and will make a huge difference.
“We hope we can achieve our dreams and share a once in a lifetime experience with our family.”

Prince George attends 1st day of primary school hand-in-hand with Prince William

Prince George attends 1st day of primary school hand-in-hand with Prince William

Prince George today attended his first day of school at Thomas's Battersea School, a private school in Battersea, South London.
Helen Haslem, the head of Thomas’s lower school, met George, 4, as he arrived at the school, holding his father Prince William's hand, and escorted him inside. Prince William and Princess Kate, both 35, announced in March they would send their oldest child to Thomas's, a coeducation school located in a middle-class area of London.
Thomas's Battersea includes approximately 550 students from a variety of backgrounds whom George will one day lead when he is king. The approximately $23,000-per year school teaches a range of traditional subjects along with ballet, art, drama, French, music and physical education.

George’s first day of school came just days after Kensington Palace announced that a new sibling is on the way for George and his 2-year-old sister, Princess Charlotte.
The palace announced Monday that Kate is pregnant with her third child after she had to cancel a planned engagement because of hyperemesis gravidarum, or acute morning sickness. Kate is under the care of doctors at Kensington Palace and was unable to accompany George on his first day.
"Unfortunately The Duchess of Cambridge remains unwell, and will not be able to accompany Prince George on his first day of school," a Kensington Palace spokesperson said. "The Duke of Cambridge will drop off Prince George this morning as planned."
William and Kate have made a very measured and considered approach to George's education. The Cambridges have not been afraid to depart from tradition and chart their own path for what they think will best protect their children.
George had attended Westacre, a local Montessori school near the family's country home, Anmer Hall, in Norfolk, a few days per week since January 2016.
William and Kate have now made Kensington Palace in London their family’s full-time residence.
Thomas’s headmaster, Ben Thomas, issued a statement in March when William and Kate’s decision was announced, welcoming George to Thomas's.
"We are honoured and delighted that Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have chosen Thomas's Battersea for Prince George," the statement read. "We greatly look forward to welcoming him and all of our new pupils to the school in September."
Prince William was greeted by a large group of media when he first started school at the same age. William and Kate have been careful to shield their children from the media so they can enjoy as normal a childhood as possible. Only a small pool photographed George today, unlike his father's and uncle, Prince Harry,'s first days of school.

Death penalty possible for man who told 911 he thought he killed wife after taking too much cold medicine

Death penalty possible for man who told 911 he thought he killed wife after taking too much cold medicine

A North Carolina man accused of killing his wife after he told a 911 dispatcher that he thought he committed the crime after taking too much cold medicine could potentially receive the death penalty if convicted, a judge told him today.
Matthew Phelps, 28, who is charged with one count of murder for allegedly fatally stabbing his 29-year-old wife, made his first appearance in a Wake County court this afternoon, but he has not yet entered a plea. A judge told the defendant that, if convicted, he could potentially receive the death penalty or life without the possibility of parole.
ABC News has reached out to Phelps' attorney, Joseph Cheshire, for comment but did not immediately hear back.
His next court date is set for Sept. 25.
Early Friday morning, police say Phelps called 911 and told the dispatcher, "I had a dream and then I turned on the lights and she's dead on the floor."
"I have blood all over me and there's a bloody knife on the bed," Phelps said. "I think I did it."
"I can't believe this," he said.
The Raleigh Police Department released the audio from the 911 call but redacted some information and altered the caller's voice.
Phelps told 911, "I took more medicine than I should have." He said he "took Coricidin Cough & Cold," explaining, "a lot of times I can't sleep at night."
The dispatcher asked if the victim was awake, and Phelps responded, "She's not breathing. Oh my God."
The dispatcher asked if the victim was beyond help, and Phelps replied, "I don't know. I'm too scared to get too close to her. ... I'm so scared."
Sobbing, Phelps said, "She didn't deserve this."
Officers responded and found his wife, Lauren Phelps, with stab wounds. She was hospitalized and later died.
The family of Lauren Phelps, whose maiden name was Hugelmaier, said in a statement, “Lauren was all about her family.

"Her four nephews were her whole world. Church was a priority for her. Lauren volunteered and loved the children and youth ministry. She enjoyed fashion and loved finding great deals at Target. Lauren loved her dog, Cooper, like he was her child. She was a very special person to everyone who knew her. The family requests privacy as they cope with this unbearable tragedy. The family has set up a crowdfunding to cover extenuating costs related to her unexpected passing."
According to ABC Durham station WTVD, the couple had been married since last year.
Bayer, the makers of Coricidin, said in a statement, "Bayer extends our deepest sympathies to this family."
"Patient safety is our top priority, and we continually monitor adverse events regarding all of our products," Bayer said, adding, "There is no evidence to suggest that Coricidin is associated with violent behavior."
