Ikeja to face four days blackout

Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Ikeja Electric, Mr. Abiodun Ajifowobaje

Ikeja Electric says it wishes to notify all its customers at Alausa, Ikeja Shopping Mall, Allen Avenue, Ogundana, Alade, Aromire and environs that there will be power interruption for four days.

The company, in a statement on Sunday, said the interruption would occur from September 2 to 5.

The Head, Communication Strategy, Ikeja Electric, Mr. Pekun Adeyanju, said, “The power interruption is to enable the company to carry out replacement and upgrade of the equipment” at its Alausa injection substation with the aim of achieving better power supply services to the areas.

He said, “All efforts will be made to restore power on September 6, 2015.

“Ikeja Electric appeals to the affected communities and thank you for your understanding and cooperation whilst we carry out the work”

It’s been a busy year for Carmudi, a developing-world used-car start-up, and it’s about to get busier.
This time last year, the online marketplace that promises faster and safer service in some of the world’s toughest spots, set up shop in Nigeria, Africa’s largest economy. Ghana, Cameroon, Senegal and Ivory Coast followed.
This week, Carmudi starts its journey from West Africa toward the continent’s center and East, adding Congo Brazzaville and Tanzania to its portfolio.
Second-hand vehicles have been imported into the continent for years and the trade has been building up as many African countries have been getting richer and more populous.
Carmudi, which launched an Android app earlier this year to start tapping the massive African mobile market, is trying to catch that wave.
It’s a “premium service,” says its Africa boss, Karl-Johan Sturesson, a Swede who moved to Nigeria to open the company and hasn’t looked back.
Like many online middlemen, Mr. Sturesson says his shop goes the extra mile to reassure visitors about the quality of the goods sold.
In Carmudi’s case this translates to a service where car dealers get them checked and certified by a mechanic. The badge of honor helps the car’s online marketability, says Mr. Sturesson.
Carmudi doesn’t charge a commission on successful sales but rather a subscription fee. Mr. Sturesson says things are going swimmingly –but won’t share metrics or revenue figures quite yet.
Across the five countries where it operates, Carmudi hosts some 55,000 unique listings a week. It doesn’t accept cross-postings, meaning that, if a car is listed there it can’t be listed on any other car classified websites. Of those, 35,000 are in Nigeria alone; 1,500 dealers are signed up.
Carmudi is one of several start-ups to be backed by Africa Investment Holdings –a pot of cash set aside by mobile giants MTN and Milicom and e-commerce firm Rocket Internet with a mission to encourage a move of the African economy online.
“[AIH] is now the leading internet incubator in Africa, with nine startups in over 20 countries. In all countries we have over 3,000 employees,” a spokeswoman for the fund said. That includes Africa’s online shopping sweetheart, Jumia.

A truck reportedly picked up everything in the house in a broad day light.
Ghana Kwaku’s source said the operation was led by a close friend who is aware of his movement.
The couple flew into Ghana earlier this week only to see that the house has been emptied.
They later checked into Movenpic hotel before leaving the country the next day.

Esther had been working with the Okoyes for 7 years now and took care of Cameron right from when he was three months old. She was diagnosed with Cervical Cancer 5 years ago, was told she had a few months to live and she finally succumbed to the disease today.

Today we lost a very precious soul. Esther Ngobor. Esther started working with us almost 7years ago. She was a wonderful nanny to our son from when he was 3 months old. She was diagnosed with Cervical Cancer 5 years ago and she fought tirelessly to stay alive.
When she was diagnosed, she was told she had a few months to live but she fought hard.Words cannot describe how incredible she was as an employee, sister and friend. My children loved her, we all loved her. Her smile and laughter would light up a room in a second. She was clever,witty and dedicated. She was most importantly God fearing and honest. Her biggest fear was dying. Oh Esther, I am so sorry. We tried everything within our power to give her the quality of life she deserved.
We tried every possible treatment available but God knows best and we cannot question Him. I want to thank all my friends and family who touched her life no matter how small. Your prayers, love and donations will not be forgotten. God bless you.

A nurse has been apprehended in Ogun State for allegedly stealing a newborn baby after birth.
According to Ogun Police command, Adebola Titilayo, the founder of a private Maternity clinic in Arogun village, Ewekoro LGA f Ogun State allegedly stole a child on the 13th June 2015 right after a woman delivered a baby at her clinic.
She reportedly lied to the mother of the child that she had a still birth and that the newborn was dead.
According to the Police Image maker, the biological mother of the baby later got reliable information that the suspect stole her baby and the Police immediately arrested her when notified about the theft.
The case was reported to the police last Friday. The baby was safely rescued while the suspect was arrested.
The newborn baby boy has been reunited with his mother.

They came after us and killed many people. I saw the boy and took him with me and my children, onto my husband’s small canoe out into Lake Chad. We stayed on a small island for three days, with nothing to eat, until hunger forced us to leave. I know the family of the child. I know the father but I do not know where they went or what happened,”.

Man With No Arms Works On Farm, Cares For Sick Mother

Meet a man who lost his arms in an accident as a child but didn’t stop caring for his sick mother and their farm in Tongxin Village of Fengdu County, China.

Chen Xingyin, 48, was electrocuted when he was just seven years old. Since then the boy has learnt how to cook, do household chores, look after livestock and cultivate two hectares of farmland using only his feet.
And even when his ageing mother, who is now 91 years, became paralysed and confined to bed Chen refused to give up.

Now he is the only one who runs his smallholding of farmland and raises a flock of 24 sheep, two buffalos and four hens.
Surprisingly, the disabled man does not complain complain of his destiny, trying to do as many things himself as possible.
Sometimes he even finds the strength and time to help his neighbours.

Xingyin, who feeds his mother with his mouth and his nimble toes, said, “I can’t leave my mother at home alone, especially not in her old age. I may not have hands, but I have a pair of good feet.”

Abuja – President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Mr Babachir David Lawal as the new Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF)
In a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, said the president also appointed Alhaji Abba Kyari as his Chief of Staff ; retired Col. Hameed Ali as Comptroller-General, Nigerian Customs Service, while Mr Kure Abeshi is the new Comptroller-General, Nigerian Immigration Service.
It stated that the president also appointed Sen. Ita S. Enang as Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate) while Hon. Suleiman A. Kawu is the new SSA to the President on National Assembly Matters (House of Representatives).
According to the statement, the appointments are with effect from August 27.
It will recalled that the office of Comptroller-General of Customs became vacant following the voluntary retirement of the former CG, Alhaji Abdulahi Dikko last week.
Similarly, the replacement of Comptroller-General, Nigerian Immigration Service was squeal to the suspension of the former CG, Mr. David Parradang last week also.

The new SGF hails from Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State. He graduated from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 1979, with a Bachelor of Engineering Degree.
The new SGF worked with the Delta Steel Company, Aladja, Nigerian External Telecommunications Limited and Data Sciences Limited, before establishing his own ICT and Telecommunications consulting firm in 1990.
He is also a member of the Nigeria Computer Society, the Nigeria Society of Engineers and the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria.

We announce the passing of Kernan McLuster on Wednesday, August 19, 2015, he was 57 years old.
He is survived by his two children, Kernan McLuster Jr., and Tanya Marquez; granddaughter, Aralyn; four sisters, Alexis Holdman, Tracy Elazier (Kenneth), Rory McLuster (Marcus), and Karen Barros (Steven) along with other friends and family too numerous to mention.

It is with a broken heart that I announce the passing of Thomas Dale Erb, my beloved husband of 32 years.
Known to those who love him simply as Tom, he passed over in my embrace on August 3, 2015, at the age of 66. He is sure to be welcomed with loving arms by his much-loved son, Morgan; his mother, Muriel; and his father, Cyril.

Alfred Caleb Tyson
On Tuesday, July 28, 2015, Alfred Caleb Tyson, affectionately known as Fredo, peacefully passed away at his daughter's home in Anna's Retreat, St. Thomas, at the age of 106. This patriarch of the Tyson clan was from the island of Nevis.
A celebration of his life service will take place at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Estate Thomas, on Monday, Aug. 10, 2015. The viewing is from 9 to 10 a.m., followed by the service.

Doris Evelyn Simmonds-West
We announce the passing of Doris Evelyn Simmonds-West, who died on July 25, 2015, at the age of 92.
She was born on Dec. 9, 1922, on St. Thomas, V.I. She was employed at the Knud Hansen Hospital Lab and later, the Nazareth Bay High School.
Doris Simmonds-West, known as "Simmonds" to most, was a world-class cook and baker. Her red peas soup, bread, sweet bread, tarts and green tamarind stew were everyone's favorite.
