Police shoot out tyres on drug suspect’s car after chase


Police pursuing a suspect on a busy Nicosia road on Friday resorted to shooting out the tyres of his car in order to bring it to a standstill.
The incident happened shortly before noon when Drug Squad officers, acting on information received that the 38-year old from Larnaca was trafficking drugs, signaled him to pull over. He ignored them, instead speeding off along Troodos avenue, near the Orphanides traffic lights and the entrance of the capital, in Strovolos.
“A 38-year old Larnaca man was arrested and quantity of cocaine seized after refusing to pull over when asked to do so” a spokesman from the press office of the police said. “Following a chase the drug squad officers shot out the tyres of the vehicle. One to two kilos of cocaine were discovered in the car.”
