DIY Beauty Recipes that Only Use 2 Ingredients
These are the easiest, quickest, and cheapest homemade cosmetics you’ll ever make. Better yet, they work wonderfully!
There have been so many times when I’ve
opened a DIY beauty book with excitement, only to find that I don’t have
most of the ingredients on the list. Then there are the times when I
head to the health food store to buy some or all of those ingredients,
only to find that the cost is exorbitant. It would be cheaper to invest
in some lovely premade green skincare products.
And yet, the allure of making my own beauty
products still remains. That’s why I was so excited to find this list of
two-ingredient cosmetics from David Suzuki’s Queen of Green. Yes, you heard me – two-ingredient cosmetics! And they are all ingredients that you’ve probably got in your kitchen right now, which makes them easier than ever.
Some of these come from David Suzuki, while
some are my own concoctions, gathered from other sources over the years.
Do you have any two-ingredient recipes that you’d like to share in the

Apple Mask: 1 tbsp apple sauce + 1 tbsp wheat germ
Make your own apple sauce by chopping an apple and cooking in the
microwave with 1 tbsp water until mushy. Mash with a fork. (You can also
use premade apple sauce.)
Add wheat germ and mix into paste. Apply and let sit 10-15 minutes. Wash off with warm cloth.
Chamomile-Mint Toner: 1 mint tea bag + 1 chamomile tea bag
Measure 4 cups of boiled water. Add tea bags and let steep for 10 minutes. Cool. Apply to face after cleaning and rinsing, using a cloth or spray bottle. Lasts 2-3 weeks.
Simple Lip Balm: 1 tbsp beeswax + 2 tbsp olive oil
Grate beeswax or chop. Place in double boiler with olive oil, or microwave on low until melted. Transfer to a small container with lid. Cool before using.
Simple Toothpaste: 1 tbsp baking soda + 1 tbsp coconut oil
Stir together. Apply to toothbrush as needed. Rinse sink thoroughly after use. BODY
Body Butter: 2 cups coconut oil + few drops essential oil
Put coconut oil into a stand mixer. Add some drops of essential oil (lavender is my favourite). Whisk until it becomes light and fluffy, then scoop into a closed container or jar.
Coffee Scrub: 3 tbsp coffee grounds (that were just used for brewing) + 1 tbsp salt
Mix together. Rub all over body while you’re in the shower. Rinse thoroughly. The shower will smell like fresh coffee!
Salt Scrub: 4 tbsp fine sea salt + 2-3 tbsp olive oil
Mix together. Add as much olive oil as you want to find the right consistency. Rub all over body in the shower. You may feel a bit oily, but as soon as you towel off, your skin will feel wonderfully exfoliated and moisturized.
Flour Scrub: Almond, brown rice, oat, or chickpea flour + Water
Scoop out some flour, add enough water to form a paste in your hand, and rub all over body or face to exfoliate. HAIR
Conditioner: 1 mashed avocado + ¼ cup coconut milk (or ¼ cup mayonnaise)
Stir together and comb through hair prior to washing. Wrap in a towel for 10-15 minutes. Wash out with shampoo.
Apple Cider Vinegar Rinse: 2 tbsp apple vider vinegar + 2 cups water
This is the latter stage in my hair care routine. ACV is great for removing build-up and adding shine. Mix together and pour over wet, cleaned hair. Rinse. (You can also do the same with fresh lemon juice instead of ACV.) |
