In July, American dentist Walter J Palmer was the subject of a public witch hunt after he killed Cecil, a 13-year-old Zimbabwean lion, sparking a furious backlash.
Inundated with hate mail and death threats by anti-hunting campaigners, Palmer, who maintains he killed the lion as part of a legal hunt, was forced to close his practice.
The trophy hunter has since apologised for his transgression, claiming he had no idea the lion was ‘ a local favourite’ and said he would assist the Zimbabwean authorities in their investigation.

Since this high profile incident, the public uproar over trophy hunting appeared to have lost steam.
