NDLEA declares Anambra’s suspected drug baron wanted
THE
Anambra State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has
declared a suspected drug baron in the state, whose name was given as
Uche Baron, wanted.
The Agency described the suspect as the highest distributor of cannabis sativa in Anambra State and its environs.
The state Commander of the Agency, Mr. Sule Momodu, made the declaration while speaking with newsmen in Awka on Tuesday.
Momodu said Uche Baron had a warehouse
at the Onitsha main market from where he distributes cannabis sativa,
also known as Indian hemp.
The NDLEA boss said Uche Baron escaped arrest on August 20, 2015 when the command raided the market.
He
said the command had arrested one of the agents of the fleeing drug
baron, Ugochukwu Chukwu, adding that Chukwu (30 years), who is also Uche
Baron’s in-law, hailed from Okwe, Onuimo Local Government Area of Imo
State.
Momodu said 109.8 kg of cannabis sativa was recovered from Chukwu upon arrest.
Appealing to judges to assist the agency
in the war against drug trafficking, the NDLEA boss said Chukwu would
soon be arraigned.
“Our cases are well prepared and they
are water-tight. We look forward to getting justice. We want a situation
where drug offenders will get jail terms from 15-25 years or life
imprisonment,” Momodu maintained.
He called on those who knew the whereabouts of Uche Baron to give the command information on how he could be arrested.
“Those in the Onitsha main market know
him. We don’t want to invade the market for obvious reasons, but we have
the resources and the power to do that.”
The NDLEA boss expressed gratitude to
the Governor of the State, Willie Obiano, for his assistance to the
command, pledging to sustain the war against drug offenders in the
state.
